Is it normal to have blood spots between periods and is my pill still effective?

It is normal for some women to experience spotting between periods, even when taking hormonal contraceptives. This usually does not affect the effectiveness of the contraception. However, if the spotting persists for more than 6 to 8 weeks or increases significantly, it is recommended to consult a doctor or gynecologist. Factors such as taking the contraceptive at the same time every day, stress, emotional changes, or infections can contribute to spotting. If spotting continues intermittently for more than 3 months, it may be advisable to consider switching to a different contraceptive method. It is important to stay informed about contraceptive options and discuss any concerns with a healthcare provider.
