My 2-year-old child is potty-trained and this morning there is a little bit of bright blood in her stool. She says it hurts. Should I consult a doctor?

It is possible that the blood in your child's stool is due to an anal fissure or hemorrhoids. If there is no constipation, it is likely that the bleeding will resolve on its own within a few days. It is important to ensure that the stool is not hard, as this can increase the likelihood of developing hemorrhoids or a fissure. Stool softeners can be purchased at the pharmacy if needed. In general, there is no urgency to see a doctor. Just observe the situation for now and let me know if the stool remains hard.
