The Queen Street location has been a centre for mental‑health care since 1850, when the facility opened as the “Provincial Lunatic Asylum.” Over the years its name changed — to Asylum for the Insane, then Hospital for the Insane (1905), Ontario Hospital, then in 1966 to “Queen Street Mental Health Centre.
