Gua Sha, also known as scraping therapy, is a traditional Chinese medicine technique that involves scraping the skin with a massage tool to improve circulation. This therapy is believed to release unhealthy bodily matter from blood stasis within sore, tired, stiff, or injured muscle areas. While not a mainstream medical treatment, some healthcare providers in New Westminster offer Gua Sha as a complementary therapy to address various health issues. During a Gua Sha session, a practitioner applies massage oil to the skin and then uses a smooth-edged tool to scrape the skin in long strokes. The scraping motion creates red or purple marks known as "sha," which indicate stagnant blood and toxins being released from the body. Patients often report feeling immediate relief from pain and tension after a Gua Sha session. If you are considering Gua Sha therapy in New Westminster, it is essential to consult with a qualified healthcare provider who is experienced in this technique to ensure safe and effective treatment.
