Before going for an MRI, my doctor gave me an Ativan to dissolve under my tongue. I was only familiar with the ones meant to be swallowed. What is the difference?

The new formulation of the medication, designed to dissolve under the tongue, was created to make it easier for patients to take without needing water. This can be especially helpful for patients who have trouble swallowing liquids and may benefit from being able to take the medication without the need for water. The effectiveness and speed of action of the medication should generally be similar whether it is swallowed or dissolved under the tongue.
