I have gastric reflux (especially at night). I have a prescription from a gastroenterologist for a PPI, but I am concerned about taking this type of medication continuously. Would I be better off with Zantac (ranitidine)? or not taking anything at all?

It is not necessarily dangerous to take nothing for your acid reflux, but it could lead to irritation of the esophagus over time. If you are experiencing symptoms consistently, it may be worth considering regular cycles of medication to manage your condition. It's important to consult with a healthcare professional to determine the best course of action for your specific situation.
