What happens if I stop taking my birth control pill prescribed for heavy bleeding and cramps?

The pill is effective for women who experience severe pain and/or heavy bleeding during menstruation. It prevents ovulation and menstruation, but the bleeding that occurs when the pill is stopped is not menstruation. Your cycle and periods may be irregular for a few months after stopping the pill, but it should not change your natural cycle in the long term. Unfortunately, it is likely that the symptoms you had before will return when your menstrual cycle becomes regular again.
